The Legend Lands in Hungary
Azumi Inoue rose to fame in 1986 singing "Carrying You," the ending theme of Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky, and went on to sing both the opening and ending themes of My Neighbor Totoro. Generations of Ghibli songs begin with her voice.Ghibli's films are loved not only in Japan but around the world, including here in Hungary — the studio has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature twice, for Spirited Away and The Boy and the Heron.More than 40 years after her Ghibli debut, that voice will resound in Budapest, the heart of Central Europe.The full setlist will be announced on a dedicated page soon.
AZUMI INOUE
Azumi Inoue debuted as a singer in 1983. She rose to fame in 1986 with "Carrying You," the theme song for Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky, and later performed both theme songs for My Neighbor Totoro. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, her voice has been loved across three generations of fans. After overcoming a serious illness in 2023, she made her comeback in 2024 and returned to the stage in 2025 — bringing her legendary voice to Budapest for the first time.
YUYU
Yuyu made her debut in 2012 and has since shared the stage with her mother, Azumi Inoue, over 500 times. She has appeared in stage productions of Anne of Green Gables and performs actively in her own band. Now 21, she is currently studying at music university, carrying the next generation of this musical legacy forward.
SZOLNOK SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA
Founded in 1965, the Szolnok Symphonic Orchestra is one of Hungary's leading professional orchestras. With an active touring history across Europe and Japan, the orchestra brings world-class artistry to every performance — and will provide the full orchestral backing for this special evening.
TOSHIFUMI KANAI
Born in Gunma, Japan and based in Budapest, Toshifumi Kanai has served as Resident Conductor of the Szolnok Symphonic Orchestra since 2021. In 2019, he conducted a peace memorial concert at the Berlin Philharmonie, and he is a recipient of the Gunma Prefecture Jomo Arts Award.
